The Samoa Victim Support Group (SVSG), with support from the United Nations Trust Fund to End Violence against Women and Girls (UNTF), is implementing the project “Community-Based Prevention of Violence through Culture, Faith, Services, and Women’s Empowerment.” The project aims to strengthen community-led efforts to prevent gender-based violence (GBV), promote the safety and dignity of women and girls, and empower families and communities to build safer, more supportive environments.

13 constituencies · 120 villages
Rooted in Samoa’s cultural values (aganu’u), Christian principles, and community traditions, the project brings together village leaders, the Fono Fa’avae, church leaders, women, men, young people, and other community stakeholders to address the underlying causes of violence.
Through village-based awareness workshops, community dialogue, capacity building, and strengthened referral pathways, the project promotes greater understanding of gender-based violence, encourages positive attitudes and behaviours, and reinforces the shared responsibility of communities to protect women and girls.
The project also recognises the importance of accessible support services, women’s empowerment, and collaboration between traditional leadership, faith-based institutions, service providers, and development partners.
We promote cultural understanding through workshops and events, celebrating our heritage and fostering unity in diversity.
Our initiative collaborates with local faith groups to provide spiritual guidance and foster resilience among community members.
We connect individuals with vital services like counseling, education, and shelter, creating pathways to safety and support.
Our programs uplift women through workshops and economic training, enabling them to reclaim their strength and independence.
We believe in a Samoa where every individual lives free from violence. Our work focuses on prevention, education, and support, fostering resilience and empowerment amidst adversity.
Working across 13 constituencies and 120 villages, the project engages communities through awareness and prevention activities designed to encourage meaningful participation and sustainable change. These activities provide opportunities for communities to discuss violence openly, understand its impacts, challenge harmful practices, and identify practical ways to strengthen protection and support for survivors.
By combining prevention education with Samoa’s cultural and faith-based foundations, SVSG seeks to ensure that the protection of women and girls becomes a shared community commitment.
